Minnesota casinos are located in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” a Northern state known for its natural beauty, cultural attractions, and a prosperous economy. Minnesota, ranked as the “Most Livable State” in the United States, has a population of over 5,000,000 people and an area of 79,610 square miles. The capital of Minnesota, St. Paul, with a population of approximately 280,000, is located adjacent to Minneapolis on the Mississippi River. The two cities are often referred to as the “Twin Cities” of Minnesota.

There are a number of Minnesota casinos scattered throughout the state, either located on Native American Tribal land or under Native American jurisdiction. Minnesota has 22 tribal-state regulations for Minnesota casinos, which allow blackjack, slots, craps, and other video gaming machines, while separate tribal agreements allow poker and bingo. The Mystic Lake Casino, in Prior Lake, is the largest in Minnesota, with 125,000 square feet, 4,000 slots, 84 table games, four restaurants, and a hotel. The Treasure Island Resort and Casino, in Welch, is another large casino, with 116,000 square feet of gambling area, 2,500 slots, 44 table games, seven restaurants, and a small hotel.

Another popular Minnesota casino is Jackpot Junction, in Morton, with 80,000 square feet, 1,650 slots, 28 table games, with blackjack and poker, as well as nine restaurants and two hotels. In addition, Minnesota casinos include the Grand Casino Hinckley, with 54,800 square feet, 2,170 slots, 47 table games, six restaurants, and four hotels; and the Grande Casino Mille Lacs, in Onamia, with 54,800 square feet, 1,885 slots, 24 table games, five restaurants, and two hotels.

Some of the smaller Minnesota casinos include the Fortune Bay Resort Casino, in Tower, with 50,000 square feet, 686 slots, and 12 table games; the Northern Lights Casino, in Walker, with 40,000 square feet, 950 slots, and 12 table games; and the Fond-du-Luth Casino, in Duluth, with 20,000 square feet, 745 slots, and four table games. The Prairie Edge Casino Resort, a smaller casino in Granite Falls, has 27,000 square feet, 660 slots, and six table games.

Minnesota casinos do not provide any revenue in the form of taxes to the state of Minnesota. There are some fees, however, that compensate the state to some extent for inspections and other items in the tribal agreements. Minnesota is rich in natural attractions, a land of “sky-tinted” waters, with an economy that might be well be enhanced with the expansion and introduction of more casinos in the future.

Scientists have uncovered soft bone tissue of a Tyrannosaurus Rex known as MOR 1125, found in a sandstone formation in Montana.

MOR 1125 was 18 years old when it died, 65 million years ago. Similar tissue of a dinosaur has never been found before, as all remains found until now were fosilized. The tissue still contains microscopic structures resembling bloodvessels and cells. The comparison between the structures found in the T-rex and a modern day Ostrich shows a remarkable similarity. The results have been duplicated with an 80-million-year-old hadrosaur and two other tyrannosaurs. The discovery was reported in today’s issue of Science.

Results similar to the popular film “Jurassic park” are unlikely, as the recovery of DNA from the tissue is improbable. The results remain astounding, however, and tests with antibodies that react to collagen shows the tissue may still contain proteins. “Ultimately if we could establish chemical composition, we would have insights into all kinds of things: diet, sexual maturity, whether the specimen is the male or female.”, paleontologist Hans-Dieter Sues said.

Richard A. Hengst of Purdue University said the finding “opens the door for research into the protein structure of ancient organisms, if nothing else. While we think that nature is conservative in how things are built, this gives scientists an opportunity to observe this at the chemical and cellular level.”

Matthew Carrano, curator of dinosaurs at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, said the discovery was “pretty exciting stuff.” “You are actually getting into the small-scale biology of the animal, which is something we rarely get the opportunity to look at.”

In an unexpected move, US Airways has placed a $8 billion bid for Delta in the morning of November 15, 2006, rallying the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which closed at 12,251.71, a record high.

The offer to buy Delta once the Atlanta-based airline emerges from bankruptcy protection by the middle of 2007 would give Delta’s unsecured creditors $4 billion in cash and 78.5 million shares of US Airways stock. Delta has yet to file its own plan of reorganization.

If completed, the deal would combine two of the oldest and most storied airlines in the United States. Delta started as a crop duster in the 1920s and grew to make its base at Atlanta-Hartsfield the nation’s largest airport. US Air started as a mail carrier in the 1930s and has gone through several mergers and two bankruptcies.

“Consumers will have more choice and more reach, and a carrier that has a cost structure of a low-fare carrier,” US Air CEO Doug Parker said in a phone interview.

The last airline deal of this magnitude, United Airline’s proposed purchase of US Airways, was blocked by the Justice Department on antitrust grounds in 2001, just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

Management of Delta have not endorsed the deal, stating they wish to prevail as independent. On Wall Street, however, US Air (up $6.64 to $57.57) investors welcomed the proposal, sending the carrier’s stock soaring more than 12 percent in midday New York Stock Exchange trading. Investors also were pleased with Delta, with shares soaring 19 percent but then going back to modest gains. If the deal is completed the airline would operate under the name of Delta but nothing is set in stone.

The vehicle that you have chosen to establish your Hundred-Fold-Life is a business on the Internet. That’s great!

Now your new business is up and running and you have a dynamite looking website. If your business is strictly online, it is imperative that you bring visitors to the site in order to make any sales. Whether you are selling products or services, you need visitors, just like traditional brick and mortar retailers need customer count to make any money, online retailers need visitors.

The difference is with traditional retailers people might see a sign as they drive down the street on which the business is located. With the Internet, there may be hundreds of thousands of similar businesses they accidentally pass while surfing the Internet. Being found accidentally can be exciting but will hardly be profitable and you will need to take steps to make sure enough people can find you to make keeping the business open worth your time and effort.

There are a couple of ways most internet businesses use to improve their chances of being found, including search engine marketing, article marketing and affiliate marketing. While any one method can offer a degree of success, online companies that combine two or more methods often have the most success. However, it all comes down to budget and the amount of sweat equity you have to invest in the business.

Search engine marketing is making sure the website is found and indexed by search engines so that when a user enters specific key words into the engine, your website appears close to the top of the rankings. Most of this effort is in how the website is constructed and how appealing it is to search engines. Minor mistakes, as well as changes in search engine algorithms can require changes in the website, but it helps websites be found during a search.

Article marketing is part of search engine marketing, but plays more towards attracting human visitors. The website owner writes informative articles about their products or services without being too sales-oriented, providing general information about their product line. They then offer these articles to other websites, free of charge, to help provide useful information to their visitors. A writer’s block, containing the website address is included in the article, and must remain part of the article when published for free.

When a visitor to the other site reads the article and, if they like what they have read, may be tempted to visit the website linked at the bottom of the article. With some of the distribution services, it is possible for the article to be distributed to thousands of other websites, giving the original site that much more potential to be found through means other than search engines.

Affiliate marketing is an agreement you make with other website owners to pay them a percentage of any sales generated by a referral from their website. You create the ads and the owner of the other site places it on their site. When one of their visitors clicks through to your site and makes a purchase, you pay an established commission. This is essentially advertising for free, paying only if you see results.

Building your online business along with your Hundred-Fold-Life may need a combination of strategies and I highly recommended it for the best results. There are many companies that will offer to bundle of those services. Shop around before you chose one. Remember that low price is not always the best deal.

The Health Benefits of Yoga

Michael Gardner

Yoga teacher training seeks to churn out experienced yoga trainers. Before, choosing a trainer it is important to find out their qualifications. With the right training you will be in a place to achieve the ultimate goal. Yoga is normally advanced as a way of living as opposed to a religion.

It plays an important role in generating a healthy mind set within a healthy body. It must be understood that human beings are physical, spiritual and mental beings. Therefore, yoga seeks to promote a healthy balance between these three aspects. Other forms of exercises, like aerobics, seek to assure the physical well-being but fail to develop the spiritual body. The health benefits of yoga include:

Generates a peace of mind

Yoga poses help to quell fluctuations within the mind. In other words, yoga seeks to slow the mental loops associated with frustration, anger, regret, desire and anger that have the tendency of causing stress. Considering stress is associated with many health problems including migraines, insomnia, lupus, heart attacks, high blood pressure, eczema and MS- learning to quiet the mind can play an important role in ensuring a longer and healthier life.

Achieve a healthier perspective

Many of the people suffer with a low self-esteem. Some handle this negatively by taking drugs, working too hard, sleeping around, overeating, etc. Such people end up paying the price with poor physical, mental and spiritual health.

However, for those who seek to approach this positively by practicing yoga, they turn out right. The practitioners end up viewing themselves as worthwhile. Therefore, for those who practice yoga regularly with the intention of betterment and self-examination as opposed to a substitute for aerobic classes they get an opportunity to discover a side of themselves they did not know.

Practitioners end up experiencing feelings of empathy, forgiveness and gratitude in addition to coming to terms with the fact that they are part of something greater.

Ease pain

Yoga helps to ease pain. Based on several studies, asana or mediation or a combination of these two can help to reduce pain in persons who have been diagnosed with arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, back pains- among other chronic conditions.

Patients who get their pain relieved often experience an improvement in their mood making them more active. With time you will not need to administer medication. Therefore, yoga instructor courses are recommended for anyone looking for an opportunity to ease their pain.

A male and a female took 3 people hostage at a law firm in Statesboro, Georgia. Police blocked off a part of this rural town on Monday. Two suspects , a man and a woman, took a lawyer hostage and claimed that they had explosives.

The suspects, Robert Eugene Brower, 43, a former client of the lawyer, and the female whose name was not released, gave up after demands for cigarettes and food were met and they spoke with a family member.

The standoff lasted for 24 hours and ended, “peacefully,” at around 10AM said Larry Schnall, a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol.

The last of the 3 hostages to be released was identified as Michael Hostilo. He and the other two hostages were not injured. There is no word on the names of the other hostages.

Earlier reports stated that there had been a “loud boom” coming from the scene at about six o’clock this morning. Authorities have not stated what the booms were.

Police are now inside the building to locate and defuse the explosive device that the suspects claimed to have had.

Initially when police arrived, there were 3 hostages, but 2 had been recently released and were unharmed, said Maggie Fitzgerald, a city spokeswoman. “They are upset with some legal issues within the recent past and want to get those issues resolved. We are doing everything possible to end this situation without anyone being hurt.”

In a news conference Monday night, Police Chief Stan York said Brower was angry about “having been convicted in a criminal case”, in which the lawyer was his court-appointed attorney. York did not elaborate on the demands of the hostage-takers, other than saying, “they only wanted to call attention to the case.”

Georgia State Trooper Larry Schnall, a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol, said a SWAT team was sent to the scene.

This morning authorities convinced the two suspects to give-up, but “incidents leading to an escalation resulted in some gunfire,” Stan York in a press conference just moments ago. No one was hurt in the brief eruption of gunfire.

Police later said when the suspects tried to surrender they became apprehensive and made a threatening gesture prompting authorities to draw their guns and open fire.

The standoff began at around 9AM on Monday.

In a meeting on Monday in Atlanta, Georgia, the United Church of Christ overwhelmingly approved a resolution supporting same-sex marriage, therefore becoming the largest Christian denomination to do so. UCC has over 6,000 congregations and 1.3 million members.

In a press conference, Rev. John H. Thomas said, “On this July Fourth the General Synod of the United Church of Christ has acted courageously to declare freedom, affirming marriage equality, affirming the civil rights of same gender couples to have their relationships recognized as marriages by the state, and encouraging our local churches to celebrate and bless those marriages.”

Thomas also acknowledged that the issue of marriage equality is “the source of great conflict” not only in society but also in the churches. The UCC, he said, “is no exception” and “there are clearly great differences among our own members over this.”

The decision is non-binding but asks member churches to consider wedding policies “that do not discriminate against couples based on gender” and support laws granting equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians.

Some member churches have suggested they may leave the denomination but most members appeared to support the resolution noting some ministers already perform same-sex ceremonies.

UCC was criticized last year for creating a television commercial including a gay couple being excluded from a church. The 30-second ad was rejected by most TV networks.

Australian researchers say they have scientifically proven that stress causes sickness. The Garvan Institute in Sydney has discovered that a hormone, known as neuropeptide Y, (NPY) is released into the body during times of stress. Their findings show the hormone can stop the immune system from functioning properly.

Neuropeptide Y is one of those hormones that gets unregulated or released from neurones when stressful situations occur…it’s known for example that it regulates blood pressure and heart rates so your heart rate goes up but it hasn’t been known that it actually can affect immune cells as well,” said Professor Herbert Herzog, one of the researchers.

Herzog feels it is good to finally have proof of something people have suspected for so long.

“Now we have proven without doubt that there is a direct link and that stress can weaken the immune system and that makes you more vulnerable when you for example have a cold or flu and even in the more serious situations such as cancer can be enhanced in these situations,” said Herzog.

The Garvan Institute study centres on two key events that enable the human body to recognise foreign substances and control invaders. When our body encounters a pathogen (bacteria and viruses), the immune cells retain and interrogate suspects. Their activation is made possible by NPY. These cells then return to the lymph nodes, which are found all over the body, with information about the foreign invaders. The lymph nodes are where decisions about defence are made.

“Most of us expect to come down with a cold or other illness when we are under pressure, but until now we have mostly had circumstantial evidence for a link between the brain and the immune system,” said lead Garvan researcher, associate Professor Fabienne Mackay. “During periods of stress, nerves release a lot of NPY and it gets into the bloodstream, where it directly impacts on the cells in the immune system that look out for and destroy pathogens (bacteria and viruses) in the body.”

In the case of bacteria and viruses, TH1 cells are part of the attack team that is sent out on the ‘search and destroy’ mission. But when their job is done they need to be turned ‘off’ and the immune system reset. The same hormone, NPY, that activates the sentry cells now prompts the TH1 cells to slow down and die.

“Under normal conditions, circulating immune cells produce small amounts of NPY, which enables the immune cells on sentry duty and the TH1 immune cells to operate – it’s a yin and yang kind of situation. But too much NPY means that the TH1 attack is prevented despite the foreign invaders being identified – and this is what happens during stress,” added McKay.

The impact of stress on the body has been observed in athletes. Ph. D researcher at the University of Queensland, Luke Spence, together with the Australian Institute of Sport, studied elite and recreational athletes over five months.

They found elite athletes were more susceptible to respiratory diseases under stress.

“A lot of elite athletes put themselves through vast amounts of physical stress in their training, but also their emotional, psychological stress of feeling the pressure of Australia on their shoulders, wanting to compete and wanting to do their best,” said Spence.

It’s not just athletes who are prone to stress. Pressures at work and at home may cause emotional and mental stress that can be equally damaging. Almost a third of all work absenteeism in Australia is due to illness, costing employers over $10 billion a year.

“I think it has a huge impact for the work force and also for employers – if their employees are constantly stressed, constantly under pressure, they are more likely to get sick,” Spence said.

Further research could lead to the development of new drugs which may inhibit the action of the neuropeptide Y hormone.

Herzog warns people to minimise stress before it becomes a problem.

“Relaxation methods like yoga will help you to prevent that but there will still be people out there that are not responding to that and treatment by interfering with the system will be important,” he said. “There’s obviously some time until such a treatment will be available but this is something we will definitely work towards.”

The Garvan research will be published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Volume 202, No. 11.
